I am so sorry for the complete silence over here and I am sorry to say it will be continuing for a few more days. Short story: we have been self-quarantined due to extreme flu since Sunday night. I haven’t had something like this since I was a little boy in the 80s and have done very little outside of sleep since then. This is the first time either of us have even been on a computer since Sunday. To make matters worse, Bonnie caught it, my mother-in-law (and Ilan’s only babysitter thanks to his extreme stranger phobia) caught it, and worse of all, Ilan caught it. And he basically shit water for 4 days and while almost out of ER watch, is still one diarrhea episode from a trip to the hospital so we aren’t able to relax yet.

All of our business is located on a separate floor of our house so it has been completely left untouched since we ended work last Friday night and will continue to be left alone until we have been given the okay from our doctor that we aren’t toxic anymore.

We are so very sorry for this. This is one of those times where having no employees fucks you over pretty well. =\ That said, most of our Alexisonfire LPs and all the Triple Crown Brand New records (as well as many other smaller pre-order titles) are all in the hands of our distributors and will delivered to us next week.

If you’ll excuse me, I have a bathroom to visit. *ugh*

Nerd Alert Records’ Facebook Daily Quote Contest!

STARTING MONDAY (hopefully I remember that, heh. ;P)

Unnecessarily long title, I know. But it is true! I mentioned this awhile back on our Facebook page (*ahem*), we are going to start having a daily “guess this quote” contest. Each correct answer – okay, I hear your ass clowns grumbling in the back; yes you can just Google it and no it doesn’t matter so shut the fuck up and hold the questions until you hear the whole thing…okay?

Um, where was I? Oh yes, each correct answer is worth $0.05 cents in store credit. A number will be randomly generated by the Internet based on the number of correct answers; that person will be private messaged through Facebook for their email address and have a gift certificate code generated after that. That’s good for anything in the store. Ya, it ain’t shit to start, but say I post a few quotes a day, you go get enough friends to compete that I have to lower it to once a day…I think you can follow the line of thought.

This idea feels so ’90s radio station – just cheesy as hell. But hey…”it will please me.” …What? …no clip? Oh, I thought we had a clip…nevermind, stupid legal beagle internet jerks.

Alexisonfire and Brand New (Triple Crown version) shipping next week!

Yep, that there be the truth. Both are in-stock with the distros we are getting these from and we should have these shipping out sometime next week, very early the next week, depending on when they get to us and we get them together. For many of you, the wait is finally over. And these are also two of the more prominent reasons why we will be doing pre-orders in a different way going forward.

Vinyl Spotlight: NOFX’s The War on Errorism

Decided its time to finally dig into our inventory and add some personal touches to as many record pages as possible. This first one is on NOFX’s The War on Errorism…as I already had a review written up on the site. I’m hoping to make this a regular action, put my college degree to use. If anyone else submits a great review to our webstore, I may just get in contact with you to have your work featured in one of these articles, which also includes a free record prize!

I really don’t understand how NOFX seems to no longer be able to record an album that is not at least on par with their own catalog (if not better). That’s not even comparing them against similar bands and records. So, its not like I was surprised that some of NOFX’s best songs were on here, its that I didn’t doubt their song writing abilities yet here’s a record that straight up challenges as if I did.

The moment the first track starts, the fucking ungodly The Separation of Church and Skate (a must see live!), I felt as if a warm blanket appeared out of nowhere and wrapped itself around me, leaving me feeling at peace, at home with my surroundings and ready to slam dance with any and all objects, living or otherwise. Many lamps were lost that day.

The rest of the record is all over the place in terms of music styling. There are catchy, pop-punk numbers in Franco Un-American and She’s Nubs, straight up NOFX punk with Irrationality of Rationality, Idiots Are Taking Over and We Got Two Jealous Agains as well as some interesting experiments like the mostly slow, slightly radio friendly (music not lyrics) Medio-Core, the retirement ditty Mattersville (a song about retiring that is like two candy bars smashed against…well, NOFX) and one of the funnest ska song I’ve heard in a long time with Anarchy Camp. Everything wraps up perfectly with the bass only song, Whoops, I OD’d, which is also exactly what it is about. Until Coaster, I don’t think there was a NOFX song as personal and somber as this one.

Essential NOFX for sure and a great place for those new to NOFX to hop right into the deep-end and experience a little bit of everything that makes NOFX the band they are today.

Quick Update About Lack of Updates

Yo! Sorry for the lack of updates the past couple weeks. It has nothing to do with the amount of work being done or that anything has changed. There have been no new pre-orders because we are looking to either completely phase out or re-imagine the pre-order because it is just not working in anyone’s favor at the moment.

The reason for no weekly stock updates is that stock man Craig hasn’t been at work and won’t return for another week and a half as he and Only the Strong are preparing for their three days of shows, showcasing themselves at SXSW. I highly doubt that they will leave unsigned or without at least some offers / contacts/ meetings. Very excited for those guys and I can’t wait to see what the future brings them!

A few quick pre-order updates:

*Alexisonfire has been pushed back a couple weeks again to the 23rd. But the record is finally done and now the only thing left, according to Cobraside, is they need to get them shipped from the label in Canada to them and then we have to get them from Cobraside up to us. But since we are no longer waiting on the record to be pressed, hopefully this is the final delay.

*Still in a holding pattern for Brand New. Looks like the Triple Crown version will hit stores next week as expected while the MTS version is still TBA thanks to the most recent delay from the band and their desire to have input on this version. I just dropped MTS a line to see how things are going, so when I get an update, I will make it known here.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support our little record store. We’re just barely scrapping by as we attempt to get a real piece of the vinyl business pie so every single order counts. As much as I’d like the comfort of consistent, established business, there is something to be said about working under the gun.

Nerd Alert Records on DJ Rossstar’s Punk Rock Show…sort of.
